Clean Install Windows 11 and Activate It With Your Key

A clean install is the usual route for a new build or a fresh SSD. Activation is the easy part, provided you install the edition your key is for.
1. Make installation media
From another PC, go to Microsoft's official Windows 11 download page and use the Media Creation Tool to write a USB drive of at least 8 GB. Everything on the drive will be erased.
2. Boot from the USB drive
Insert the drive, restart, and open the boot menu (often F12, F11 or Esc, depending on the motherboard). Make sure TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot are enabled in the firmware settings.
3. The product key screen
Setup asks for a product key. You can enter it now, or select I don't have a product key to activate later. Both are fine.
If you skip the key, Setup asks which edition to install. Choose the one that matches your key: Windows 11 Pro for a Pro key, Windows 11 Home for a Home key. Picking the wrong one is the most common reason a key "doesn't work" later.
If the PC has a key in its firmware (common on laptops), Setup skips this screen and installs that edition automatically.
4. Finish setup
Choose the drive, let Setup copy files and restart, then complete the out-of-box setup. Signing in with a Microsoft account links your digital license to it after activation.
5. Activate
