Windows 11 Home isn't a trial or a cut-down version for everyday tasks. It includes:

  • The same app and game compatibility as Pro, including DirectX 12 Ultimate and Auto HDR.
  • Windows Security (antivirus, firewall and ransomware protection) and monthly security updates.
  • Device Encryption on supported hardware, Windows Hello sign-in and Smart App Control.

When you need Pro instead

Check your edition first

A Home key activates only Windows 11 Home. If your PC currently runs Pro, a Home key will be rejected. Open Settings › System › About and read the Edition line, or follow our step-by-step guide.

Moving Home to Pro later
